NEW APPLICATION OF CORRUGATED BOARD
Patented innovative solutions for the design of corrugated board packaging
Now it is often heard that manufacturers are changing over from the production of universal packaging to the production of an individual, designed to transport a certain type of product. Although this does not exclude the possibility of using the same package for different purposes, from transportation and storage of food products, to elements of the interior. Below you will find several developments in the field of the development of packaging design from corrugated board.
Mondi packaging for storing of watermelons
According to the latest data, a third of the total amount of food (approximately 1.3 billion tons) does not reach the end user or spoils. Innovative solutions are needed to avoid this. In developing countries, 40% of products spoil at the initial stage of supply due to improper transportation and storage. Mondi Group, an international group of companies specializing in the production of packaging materials and paper, presents a fundamentally new approach that solves the problem of transporting watermelons and allows preserv a more attractive type of product. At present, premium-quality watermelons are delivered to supermarkets in octabines, “A” class boxes, cardboard or plastic pallets. The Watermelon’s Dream project, offered by Mondi, is an excellent alternative to standard packages. Boxes have a unique rectangular shape with a hole, through which you can monitor the condition of watermelons. In addition, packaging from a folding 1-ply corrugated board with ergonomic design is easy to assemble and transport. Such a solution will allow transporting 50% more watermelons in a single truck, thereby significantly reducing transportation costs. Another advantage of the new development will be convenience for the end user. Thanks to the unique packaging design, even the heaviest watermelon will be easier to bring from the supermarket to the house. And finally, it is worth noting that the
Watermelon’s Dream project opens wide opportunities for the promotion of brands, because there is enough space on the boxes for printing, and stored inside the watermelons are perfectly visible. The new packaging allows you to emphasize the special status of the product and is perfectly suitable for storage on store shelves. The company has already managed to realize its concept in Turkish supermarkets, and now the new offer is available internationally. Hasan Ali KOÇ, CEO of Antalya Seracilik, said: “The new convenient packaging presented by Mondi not only looks presentably on the shelf, but also greatly simplifies the transportation and storage of watermelons for both stores and the end user. Most of all, we liked the fact that the functional design of the boxes allows you to reduce the amount of damage to the product by 13%. ” Fatos Adak, product development manager at Mondi Corrugated Packaging Turkey, commented: “The Watermelon’s Dream project is an excellent example of the fact that Mondi always strives to create a comfortable package that stands out from the rest of the range and is manufactured without harm to the environment. Every day millions of people use Mondi products. That’s why we always strive to take care of people who live in the regions where we operate. Starting to develop innovative packaging, we based on a wide range of companies and conducted extensive research with suppliers, customers, research institutes and specialists from the Mondi food safety laboratory. We managed to identify four areas of work: reducing the risk of damage during transportation and storage, extending the shelf life, matching the packaging to changing socio-demographic conditions, and creating the ability to track packaging in order to more efficiently manage material and technical resources. Watermelon’s Dream meets all the tasks. We are pleased to present a new original packaging format!”
The WooBox – innovative modular packaging
Designer Ivan Erkic and agricultural engineer Nikica Marinkovic (Serbia) have developed a new brand of eco-friendly packaging – The WooBox. It is a multifunctional box with natural thermal insulation. The modular system of the drawer allows using it both during transportation and layout of things, as well as in the design of the room. Thanks to the WooBox form, boxes can be carried on several pieces by inserting them into each other. There exist many options of the layout of boxes and therefore the attractiveness of the goods. From WooBox boxes, you can make designer shelves, and the lid will serve as a fastener on the wall. At the moment, the development is awaiting the grant of a patent.
Viupax – Innovative footwear box
After two years of research and testing, Andreas Kioroglou, founder of the Matadog Design Greek creative agency, developed a packaging solution for shoes that has several innovative qualities. Using less cardboard and less volume, the designer managed to create a more economical and environmentally friendly version of the package. It requires 20-57% less paper, and packaging takes 20-50% less space for storage and transportation. A box can be carried without an additional package. Thanks to the original design, the box looks great on the shelf of the store. Packaging is easily transformed into a toy for children. The development of Viupax is protected by a patent.
